Get Involved

SERAG is representative of a wider community which places importance on the natural values of our iconic Swan River Estuary.

Membership is drawn mainly from Perth and surrounding districts but, given the Estuary's international importance, is not limited to these areas.

Joining SERAG does not necessarily involve any commitment of time. Participation in our various projects and activities is always warmly welcomed, but entirely voluntary.

Is there anything other than bush care tasks that I could do to help SERAG?

Yes, most certainly! Wide-ranging tasks such as:

  • updating and maintaining the SERAG website

  • keeping a photographic record of the work we do along the foreshore and highlighting the positive changes we make

  • assisting with library displays and special events like World Migratory Bird Day

  • writing grant applications and loading the data on to our document management system to ensure we have accurate records to acquit the grants we receive

  • collecting plants from local native plant nurseries and delivering them to the rehabilitation sites

  • assisting with catering for our morning teas, especially when we are hosting a corporate group

  • bookkeeping to maintain our financial records

These are just some of the ways you can help SERAG achieve its aims and they can be regular or ad hoc commitments. If you have a skill you think we could use, get in touch!

Activities and Events

Throughout the year, SERAG runs weekly and monthly activities offering the opportunity for members to engage in hands-on restoration in one of the three A-Class Nature Reserves. Please see the Calendar for more details.

SERAG also conducts community and educational events to mark particular days of the year, such as World Migratory Bird Day, Clean-Up Australia Day and more. These events will be advertised to our readership and members.

Hours spent volunteering with SERAG can count towards rewards for those registered with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.

Apply for Membership

We welcome any new members who share the aims and values of SERAG. Our group relies on grants to fund restoration activities. Our grant opportunities are strengthened by having strong membership numbers, so simply joining SERAG is helpful, regardless of whether you have time to commit to SERAG activities. Of course, if you are able to assist in any way, this would be most welcome as well.
